One of the most surprising benefits of our journey into the cannabinoid business has been the knowledge we’ve acquired about the health benefits of cannabidiol, also known as CBD. Pure CBD is found throughout the seeds, stalk and flowers of the hemp plants and has been shown in a patent by the US National Institutes of Health to have significant antioxidant and neuroprotective properties. Yep, that’s right. Our government has a patent on cannabis. As it turns out, men, women and children of all ages are using CBD oils for ALL KINDS OF THINGS- Not just the most critical conditions like epilepsy, multiple sclerosis.
Women, in particular, have a special relationship with cannabinoids - and for good reason. Not only do women produce cannabinoids in breast milk but females also have more CBD receptors than our male counterparts. And oh, by the way…we don’t think it’s any surprise the hemp plant is a female. ;) CBD is showing up in skincare lines, personal lubricants, and protein shakes. It seems the benefits are endless, but is it really all it's cracked up to be? The answer is a clear 'Hell Yes!' for us, but we'll let you decide for yourself.
Seeing Red: Controlling heart disease and stress
Cardiovascular diseases and stroke cause 1 in 3 women’s deaths each year, killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds. While research on how CBD’s directly related to lower risks of heart disease is still needed, the indirect ways of how CBD’s are helping women lower their risk of heart disease are undeniable – like using CBD’s help relieve chronic pain, so staying active are realistic options. Cannabinoids also lower stress and cortisol levels in the body, reducing inflammation and chronic stress.
From period pain to menopause, women are finding relief with CBD.
Topical CBD ointments can work wonders, but doubling up on pure CBD’s can work magic for your body and mind. CBD not only reduce pain and inflammation when taken internally but also reduces anxiety and stimulates anandamide levels. Anandamide is also known as the ‘Bliss Molecule’ responsible for helping achieve a state of heightened happiness. Who doesn’t want more of that?
Dr Michele Ross, Neuroscientist and founder of IMPACT Network explains it best when making the connection between the reproductive organs and CB1 and CB2 receptors in our bodies. “When anandamide levels drop, we might feel moody or irritable, crave fatty foods, or feel in pain or crampy. Sound familiar? That’s PMS. “
She goes on to say
“Your uterus has the highest levels of anandamide in your whole body. During certain times in your menstrual cycle, like ovulation, your uterus has 100 times more anandamide than your brain does. No wonder why we are feeling our best then!”
You know, for as awesome as women are, we certainly get the short end of the stick sometimes. It seems like our brain wiring really is different than our male counterparts.
According to the National MS Society, women are at least two to three times more likely to develop the disease. Several studies report CBD as being an effective treatment for spasticity and improved cognitive function. While the cause of MS is still unknown, scientists believe several different factors may be involved including immune-related factors and some types of infectious disease. By keeping the immune system healthy with CBD supplements, we can help control the inflammation of the Central Nervous System and keep our bodies humming in a state of homeostasis.
More than just forgetting.
It’s no secret that Alzheimer’s is more prevalent in women than in men. Scientists originally thought this was because our lifespan was longer but now cite other risk factors such as heart health, diabetes, and obesity as part of the problem.
- Aside from the fact that 60% of all Alzheimer’s caregivers are women, at the age of 65, women have a 1 in 6 chance of developing Alzheimer’s, compared to a 1 in 11 chances for men.
- Additionally, out of the 5 million people living with Alzheimer’s in the U.S., 3.2 million are women.
- Research has found that women in their 60s are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s than to develop breast cancer.
Think you’re too young to worry about Alzheimer’s? Researchers believe there are nutritional and physical factors that can play a role in limiting the onset of Alzheimer’s and Dementia before it starts. CBD is being used in treating and managing side effects of the disease.
Not to mention….
CBD is oh, so good for your skin
Skip the fancy designer creams. According to Medical Jane, “hemp seed oil is perfectly suited for hair and skin care. Its nutritional value, combined with its moisturizing and replenishing EFA’s, make it one of the best vegetable body care foundations.” Because CBD oil contains omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, the serum provides protection from the sun and other anti-oxidative properties.
CBD can enhance all your skincare needs.
And helps you feel great!
The biggest thing we hear from women using a regular regimen of CBD oils is a general sense of happiness. It’s hard to explain but there is a gradual increase of energy and feeling of well-being that sneaks up on you until one day you simply notice, ‘I feel great!’ CBD is being used to treat depression and anxiety but you don’t have to have a clinical diagnosis to start feeling better. We found extraordinary results after a few weeks of at least 100 mg. of pure CBD a day.
It doesn’t matter how young or old you are using cannabinoids as part of your everyday health routine will most definitely pay big dividends at any stage of the game. Stay tuned for more articles on how you can fit CBD oils into your life.
